In France

Some of my favorite times touring the Dark Fades album were spent in France where ‘Where Do we Go’ became a hit after being chosen as the theme song for a big advertising campaign for FNAC, which is a big chain music/electronics retailer.  From there it was picked up by radio, making it possible for me to play some great music tv shows.  Taratata was a great time.  I almost passed out in horror the day before, as I’d told the producers I would perform (along with Where do We Go) a duet with a fantastic Swedish artist, Peter Von Poehl, and had selected The Carpenters ‘Close to You’, as it sounded simple – and because I love it of course.  If you’re wondering where the horror came in, it was when I thought I should try to learn the song at least – the performance being the next day,  and realized for the first time that Burt Bacharach songs only SOUND simple.  ’Close to You’ starts out pretty easily, in the key of C I think, then modulates up to Dflat.  Thats where it gets tricky.  Trying to memorize all his effortless sounding chord changes and melodious hooks the day before made me giddy.  I met Peter backstage, where we had a run-through.  I was still pretty shaky.  Suddenly we were on Live tv on Frances most popular music show during prime time.  Live audience, the whole bit.  Anyway, we pulled it off kind of, but you can see my little fingers shaking quite violently on a close-up shot, and it gets a bit pitchy towards the end.  I was in such shock trying to pull it off, I have no memory of playing the song at all.  Just sheer panic.  That was about the most nervous I’ve been.  Now I always make sure to prepare within an adequate amount of time, say 2-3 days…

Anyway, after all that blithering, you’re probably expecting to see that video here, but I’m too computerly inept to link to it (these are still early days for me with my own website that I can actually *update myself* but I’ve linked to where my videos are, so browse those to find it.

Here’s something I could find.  It’s from an interview I did for Paris’ newspaper, Le Parisien which can be found with the videos along with a solo performance of ‘Where do we Go’.  Here’s a couple of songs they filmed  at a little solo showcase –>Le Parisien \’Julietta\’ and Le Parisien \’Save your Kisses\’

You can find the other videos here!
